Off to the Maha Kumbh of Literature in Jaipur! These images are from the absolutely wonderful fruit and vegetable market in Guwahati. I came back with two cartons filled with veggies and fruits ( did you know Guwahati is the pineapple capital of the world?). Those gooseberries are from Kashmir. And I pounced on the oranges from Meghalaya and Bhutan - the sweetest on earth!

Dear Mrs. De,

Your comparison of the Jaipur literary festival to the Maha Kumbh, does bring a particular thought to mind. Depending on how you like your astrology, a Maha Kumbh occurs once in every twelve years, or once in every 144. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we got to see our homegrown crop of pompous "jholawala" scribblers once in every twelve years?! Perhaps once in a 144 would be even better, but then, even wishful thinking has its limits.

Those vegetables look great! Please say hello to the other ones in Jaipur from the rest of us.

Peace!

It is interesting to see how culture defines or shapes our ideas, for example Tomato is botanically a fruit but culture places it among vegetables. I guess those oranges are Mandarin oranges or Mandarins, a popular variety of these called Kinnow is cultivated extensively in Punjab of India and Pakistan.

Hi Shobhaa.

In your yesterday's blog on Bharat Ratna for Nirbhaya, you mentioned that " But even that will not be without debate, considering what an embarrassment her death has been to the Dilli wallas. Shame!".
I would strongly disagree with the last line on Dilli Wala's as Delhi is not The Delhi which was used to be earlier. Most of the masses in the state came from various other states of the country who have totally disturbed the culture, values and the behavioral nature. They are the one's who create chaos and mess.
