Bongo Drums

No server. No post. Bahut afsos ki baat hai, ki MTNL was on the blink for 36 hours, maybe more. I went into severe depression.... so severe, that I left town! Seriously. I drove to Pune at 7 a.m this morning, and got back at 7 p.m. Slightly frenzied, but any excuse to go to Pune. Especially if that excuse is as scrumptious as the unbeatable kheema pao served at the coffee shop of the Blue Diamond Hotel ( an old haunt - I remember going there with Smita Patil and Vinod Khanna years and years ago, when both of them were smitten by Rajneesh -Osho ). Well, I came home in a car that was reeking of the dish... and the aroma must have been so overpowering, Kiara jumped all over me - which was a good sign. She has been droopy and unwell for the past two days - no appetite and a mournful expression. The vet said it could be a case of gastro. I wanted to cheer up Kiara on Mother's Day ( sunday), but she was not in the mood even for an ice cream treat. My own treat at the Four Season's Prato was fun and bubbly ( thanks to the Bubbly!), but the buffet was seriously disappointing. I didn't have the heart to state that to my son-in-law, since he was paying!

Before I run away, I'd promised a mini-review of 'Antaheen' - well, let me put it this way - only a Bong film maker would have the audacity to start the movie in the voice of a French chanteuse ( the song segued into a Bangla rap number - how? Why? Don't ask - it's a Bong movie , remember?). Self -indulgent, self -conscious and soulful, the film is pretty pointless, even amateurish, with far too many sub- plots and tracks. The protagonist Brinda sings far too many songs ( they all sound the same, and break the pace of the film, which is painfully slow to begin with), and admires Freida Kahlo ( how totally Bong- pretentious!). The cop (all he does is moon over the mystery girl and talk about Jim Morrisson to a Pravin Mahajan -inspired character) played by Rahul Bose playing Rahul Bose, is all Bong angst and little else. That leaves Aparna Sen wearing a dreadful wig and smoking too many ciggies, when she isn't moaning about her 'best work' (snapshots of Ladakh). Oh yes, Sharmila Tagore as the spinster pishima is wonderfully 'naekka' in most of her scenes with the Bose (Rahul).... but that's Sharmila - still playing the Kashmir ki Kali. Inox on a saturday night, was crammed with Bongs. Just BONGS! Most agreed the movie was a bit of a bore.... but it was ''so us!" (what on earth does that make us?? Bores????). I loved Kalyan Ray, and if the burly, bearded gentleman is indeed Aparna's husband in real life - lucky Aparna.

Hmmn....seems like its 'that time of the month' for Bongs. Nothing going their way...

first, the KKRs fell off even before starting their IPL Ride...and now this movie...

the Left must be worried about being left alone on election result day!

Past few posts have been VERY BORING. Pets don't generate an iota of interest to anyone other than the owner.

Lots of Appam stuff have happened in last few days. You can blame MTNL for your silence but you could have used internet cafe to avoid depression.

Even though I disagree with you sometimes but I like the fact that you speak from your heart. Any comments on following will be interesting.

1) Amitabh Bachhan is a goofy man these days. He has taken the 5th amendment on the National Anthem controversy. I think this man is creating more harm to his legacy with each passing day by staying in this once respectable profession.

2) IPL is fuelling Satta bazar and CBI is not saying anything this time. BCCI is encouraging it. The same satta with the help of CBI and BCCI who cut short the careers of Azharuddin, Prabhakar, Ajay Jadeja, Nayan Mongia and Ajay Sharma.

3) Dimpled Darling party is about to set a honeymoon date with Left parties as the voting is almost complete.

Do these bastards deserve to contradict themselves before and after the voting???

Next time you go to Pune, try the asali Puneri Bedekaranchi MisaL and Shree Uphaar Gruha's Sabudana Khichadi....definitely you will have to come out of the Blue Diamond comfort zone and mix with the real punekars to taste this traditional dishes. You might have tried these, but if not, you should. I know you like Pune, just like me :)
Good to have you back.

yem tee yen yell... is hell at times, agreed! but somehow I love it still despite everything. the breakdowns are not that frequent.

Kiara! i know my girl lisa is also all droopy droopy. her jumping on you was a way of wishing you "happy mothers day". Give my love to her. Gastro vastro kuch nahi, just speak to her everyday, and she will get well... speak to her like you would speak to a human. It works!

Smita patil... wow! what a wonderful persona she is. She lives on.. From a doordarshan newsreader to being Shyambabu discovery who cast her in charandas to Nishanth... Wow! she is someone who lives the fact that its not the quantity of life but the quality of life that inspires.

"Antaheen" lehhh! i hate any kind of pretension. Id like movies that are close to life, on the face... (not like Formula Bhandarkar though ) I have seen some bongish movies which speak about all worldly things on a higher level... which is beyond my comprehension... I call it the M Night Shyamalan effect... "you dont understand nothing, but you appreciate that you understand nothing" (HAHAHHAHHAHA!even i am confused now)

Sharmila, Kashmiri chick scores low in the acting department. I feel like slapping her when she starts crying. Irritating. I dont form a permanent perception about anybody (except salman khan), Sharmila is yet to amaze me.

Aparna, Konkana... they are some one whom I love... truly love for their genuineness.

you are right, No MTNL means no phone and no internet. that means totally cut off from the world. We all have become so addicted to internet that cann't think of life without it.sometimes I really feel that has it become one of the basic necessites of life, without which we cannot survive?

From your profile it's obvious that your movie taste is not that developed so that all that lamenting about "Bongs" and Antaheen seems a tad unappropriate.
