Sangakarra quits....Afridi sweats!

Blogdosts, I just had to repeat the top picture which was shot by a friend in Colombo last year. This is what a winner looks like! I am glad I don't have a picture with Afridi - but by now the whole world knows what a loser looks like - him! Sangakkara was grace itself in defeat... not just when he was in the host country, but even after getting back to Sri Lanka. By quitting, he has once again demonstrated his inherent class. He has cited age (he is 33) for opting out of the next World Cup. We have older players, but there's no talk of quitting or making space for younger players. That's the big difference.

As for Afridi's flip flop ( first you hate us, then you don't), come on, buddy. This just ain't cricket. It is sooooo declasse to badmouth your hosts! Some say he was scared of the Taliban after losing the match! That's a laugh. Cricket terrorism??

**************

The second picture was sent to me by a friend in Hong Kong ( yoo hoo Rama!). What a circuitous route to get to me, considering it's from the current issue of 'Stardust'. Well, anyway... I rather liked it. Mainly because I rather like Urmila - such a wasted talent in Bollywood. She has it all... and yet!

**************

I am off to Thailand tomorrow. Chances are I'll be gone from this space till the middle of the month. Promise to miss me truly, madly, badly!

After that - Bhutan and Thimpu for 'Mountain Echoes' - the second edition of the Lit Fest that is fast being recognised as a gem in the lit fest circuit. I shall be in excellent company for 3 packed days. And an extra 'retreat for writers' at Paro after that. Fun times ahead.....

M'am, goodluck with all your travels! You are right it is always good to be graceful in defeat! Now for Afridi, he is just being a neighbour. Well its always fashionable to hate us Indians and then love us later. As for Urmila, both of you look great in the photo. Urmila I think was the last fully marathi mulgi who could act and dance after Madhuri. I hope both come back on screen.Best Wishes hope you come back soon!

Ms. De.. Fabulous pic! I recall this pic from last year...
Afridi is indeed a complete loser. I heard the clipping on youtube and was not surprised at all. Infact, few of my 'so called friends' on FB also commented trash for the winners. As always, they'll hate us but who gives a damn! We need to celebrate our victory and not worry about such immature comments from the neighbour.

Urmila looks scary, she could do Bhooth all over again. Its either plastic surgery or bad make up. Can't be just age catching up. She was never very cute, except in rangeela but in this picture she looks pretty bad. Poor thing.

Yessss what a man Sanga is!! Cricket is not just to play on the field but how you take it off the field also matters a lot. :)

We will miss u on the space..I love Superstar India a tons..read it 3 mths back--cld connect coz its very youthful n bout amchi mumbai(not in a derogatory or Thackerayesque way) but out of love for the city that neva sleep.
I jus hate Afridi..such an ungrateful, bloody loser..I jus wanna slap him--We are champions n talk wid respect--to Afridi. He should take a leaf out of Sachin who is such a humble n modest human being--He deserves the Bharat Ratn.
With love
Vishal

Mothers are the flagships for world of love and concern. A mother is the one and only relationship we live for. Very few relations are there in life that can stand the challenge of time, and the mutual relationship with Mother surely tops the list of them. It’s the relationship that expects nothing from you, keeps loving you every moment, and stays with you for the rest of your life. Indians have short memory. Times Now, NDTV and the entire media blacked out nira radia tapes for more than a week. And now they are trying to take out on UPA. Their strategy. blackout all other news, project this tamasha as nationwide movement and call the usual suspects(including you) for support. And suddenly Cricket, Dhoni, Sachin have becomes villains overnight for playing cricket. Whereas you, after appearing on TV for some time, are out on one of your foreign jaunts instead of proving your support by participating in morchas in the hot April sun. This movement has turned jingoistic frenzy, blind and Hitleristic. Why these bunch want to have extra constitutional powers when there is supreme court doing its part without fear? Those who dont support this jingoism are called corrupt and traitors. Bachchan is forced to come out openly like Aamir Khan. Is this not pressure tactic and arm twisting? I wonder what is the exact agenda behind this media tamasha?

I am reminded of Peepli Live watching this media updates.
I think they want Tahrir Square for their trps.

Your line where you say our players, the older ones do not talk of quitting, I may add, that if anybody irrespective of their age can add so much of value to the game, so there is no question of leaving it mid way, but yes, they have come into the backdrop, so that younger players can lead from the front.

If the same old players keep playing the game for 20+ years... Then when will the youngsters get the opportunity... There re so many who are thriving to join the game... Doesnt it sound unfair....

And if a player plays for sucha long time.. its no big deal to create world records of any sort... (its funny we call it as world record when not even 15 out of about 200 countries play cricket)...

With the Afridi thing I guess it the biggest example what "trauma" can do to one. We can just pity his condition.
