Suhaag Raat for sale???

Momentous day, in a way. Couldn't have imagined I'd be watching a close relative's eye surgery as it took place - no, not in the O.T. but from an adjoining room, on a tv monitor that was recording each procedure. Dr. Ashok Shroff is one of the best ophthalmic surgeons in India, with impeccable credentials. It was a privilege watching him operate with such elegance and lightness of touch. His fingers moved like a graceful dancer's in a well choreographed sequence that dazzled me. ME!!!!! Someone who is so squeamish about injections and needles. I am seriously needle- phobic and close my eyes when someone is getting an injection - even if that is on the screen. And here I was paying such close attention to Dr. Shroff''s every move ( magnified, of course, and doubly scarey). Now that I know I won't faint at the sight of an eye when a cataract is being pulverised before getting it sucked out , I'll be able to handle myself less hysterically while donating blood.

Playing peeping tom was an awesome experience on one level. Sure. I shed a small bit of my earlier phobia.Do I want a replay?? Hell, no!! Even this was far too upclose and personal for my taste.

I happened to read an email that was forwarded to me by a responsible person, just to give me an idea of how aggressively the celeb game is being played these days. It was from a big fish flogging the rights to various functions that had anything at all to do with his own forthcoming wedding!!!! He was offering juicy details and tantalising teasers about every 'event' associated with the 'shaadi', starting with his formal proposal " on bended knee." How unique and original is that, I ask. He'd also provided payment details of the gigantic rock he'd be giving his lady love, helpfully adding he'd speak to the jewellers about an 'exclusive'. The price he quoted for the ring could buy an island in the Carribean. It made me wonder if the man was plain smart or entirely besharam. If the mags had been crazy enough to actually bid for and buy his story for the price he was demanding, he'd have got the engagement ring and his high profile wedding for free!! I guess some editors have better sense than to fall for such a Cheap Charlie's ghatiya tricks. He was told to go flog his two bit 'exclusive' to some other bakra. So far, nobody is biting. Who knows, he may peddle the rights to his suhaag raat next!!! Now that would be something given the yummy bride.

Hello Ms. Shoba,

Same with me here, I am so afraid to go get a flu shot even though it is so much necessary these days...Of course its not just the needles I hate but everything about medicines though I shouldn't.

Anyways it was quite interesting to read abt the Celeb game n the ramp shows. I completely agree with you. I feel that most of the stars do not even know to walk on the ramp, I hardly saw a star walking with ease.
If you get a chance do watch America's super model reality show hosted by Tyra Banks.

I donno may be the man is smart, if he is high profile guy, the paparazzi would shred his "personal life" to pieces anyway. So why not just find a middle way out of it. and if he is not...he will become one. Bad or good publicity improves "page impression".

If it was me I'd talk about why and how I proposed her on the top of mount Everest because my brain was out of oxygen, that's how she got me to buy that rock, give him a folder with label "Naked pictures inside" which would have my grandma's Xray pics, and keep chanting for everything else there is visa...Endorsement deal. As long as it makes money.

Everything about this post was in poor taste, right from you watching a "live" surgery to an atrocious wedding procession!

what kind of eye surgery was it? im in that business :) Eye surgery has come a long way in India from back in the 70s and 80s when my dad was blinded by incompetent eye surgeons at AIIMS and a hospital in Aligarh which forced us to flee India.

oops. i didnt catch it.. it was cataract. I think a retinal detachment surgery would be very fascinating as well..

PS. Regarding selling rights to the wedding..welcome to influence of Hollywood on Bollywood.. and the get millions which they donate to charity - read "their own charity" which is only required to pay out a small % of the income to charity.. how "giving" is that!

It's amazing (and downright disgusting) how low people will stoop for cheap publicity!

Can u tell the name of the big 'fish'...well that should sour his hysterical histrionics but at least the bride-to-be should be aware of the honeymoon thereafter!

The standards to which the reality shows on our television are falling, the day is not far when they will start showing the acts which deserve to be left to the confines of ones bedrooms.

More often than not the participants of such programmes are those lost horses who badly need publicity to come into the lime light again.

Yeah it must be Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra.. Anyways who cares?
I sometimes think people who want to follow each and every tiny detail of celeb lives are really pathetic and need a life.
But its nice you mention stuff like that on your blog. Else there would be no way we hear of it.
Like when I read on your blog about the Arjun Rampal incident at Rahit Bal's show, I looked up on internet and what I really like was Gul Panags tweet on that.. really, Wah re Bollywood! lol.. :D

The voyeuristic trait of humans is well capitalized by not just the arriviste but also the seasoned rich.

We silly and bully the pretty smart rakhi sawant. Who is out there, in all spunk and sheen "On your face"...

...and these petty "Media Net" savvy people eat the cream and then cry foul. these peoplemight be those who blatantly accuse the media of over intrusion, though the reality might be the planned syndicate.

Jiyooooh!

So happy that you conquered your OT fears.

I was also pretty fattu, about watching any operation or even watching a needle prick. Until one day i was handed over the task of vaccinating strays... it was difficult, i fumbled, i faltered, but i dealt with empathy... the animals showed sympathy... and dint resent the prick.

And, You know when i was a child, i was damn scared of animals. I could never touch a dog. I know how it feels to conquer your fears. its like climbing mount Everest with just one limb. :)

Hey good one!! Such cheap floggers definitely need to get exposed. One thing that I dont understant is where has the subtlety of mags-guys gone. If they happen to read this post of urs, they wud definitely think twice before featuring any other crap.
