Sick of MNIK ....!

Really! I have had it upto there and beyond. Such shenanigans. So much tamasha. When all along there must have been some kind of an understanding between the main players. Now that the movie is being screened and nobody is burning theatres, can we please change the subject and get on with our lives as they were pre-MNIK??
I am all for civil society speaking up and being counted\heard when there is an issue that presents a threat to democratic principles - freedom of expression, creative options. But I hate to think somewhere down the line, there has been an attempt to manipulate public opinion. This is not a good feeling. Terrorising gullible citizens into silence and inaction is unacceptable in any right thinking society. But what is worse is the suspicion that there was more to it - perhaps a tacit understanding. Or else, how does one abruptly arrive at a compromise formula or even an uneasy truce after a hostile standoff extending over days ? There has been no plausible explanation from either side so far. Which makes one believe kuch setting ho gaya. But with whom and how? Rather, for how much????
While Mumbaikars are relieved and glad that this nonsense has ended, it makes people equally wonder what the fuss was about in the first place? How are theatres better secured today than they were last night? What sort of miracles have the cops performed to reassure movie fans they won't be stoned for watching MNIK?
Thank God for saner times and all that. But was India taken for a royal ride ? If so, by whom? Chief culprit??
I welcome all theories, opinions and debates on the issue. The wilder the better.
Am I rushing to book my ticket for MNIK? Naah. Of course I plan to see it. But I'll live.
My money is on 'Toh Baat Pakki." It sounds delightful. And Tabu is an absolute gem. So is Sharman Joshi. I need a good laugh after the week's high drama. Perhaps I should go in search of Muthalik and teach him the lyrics of that old favourite, " Black is Black.' Ha ha! Boori nazar waley, tera mooh kaala!
Oh... in case you guys are interested, do catch the Karan Thapar show 'India Tonight' that aired yesterday at 10.30pm on cnbc TV18. You can guess the topic, right?? Wonder what happened to the 'mass movement' the Shiv Sena spokesperson Rahul Nirvekar was going on and on about? Where were these masses today?? He also jauntily said, " Our critics will get their answer tomorrow."
Well honey.... we are right here and waiting!

Fox must have parted with some crores. I have a feeling that Indians are unpatriotic when it comes to material comforts be it movies, gizmos etc. etc. Even if SRK sang duets with Dawood in Dubai, Indian people will flock to his movies. Dont blame Pakistan when our own people are selling patriotism and principles. Senas are more successful in harassing the poor workers and this time also their anger may deflect on some poor migrants who have no government support at the state level or central level leave alone personal security(?).

I think all of it was staged. Sad but plausible. Also, sick of the tv channels running moral commentry.

You are right Maa de enough of MNIk . iam happy about mutalik moo kala and you know what he said such goondaism is not acceptable in a democractic country when he himself is a big goonda.

No. The game is not over. It has just begun. Just after seeing the 1st round it wouldn't be wise to declare game & match. Plenty is still to come.
It is not about MNIK. You know that. It is about whether we can see a movie of our choice without fear. 2 theatres (that too multiplexes) have started showing the movie fron noon show. There are 18 individual theatres who have not opened account. How long will the police protect our interests ? We must be free to do what we want to do in a democracy without any kind of protection being necessary.
You are always in a hurry to close this chapter declaring that all is hunky dory.
Forget SRK. What about the hundreds of technicians whose bread & butter depends upon the running of this film ? What have they done ?
And in twitter you pose as a different person altogether.
Some of your tweets:
"Said a smartie: manoos may come and go,but the Khans go on forever!"
"Rahul Baba: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.Tum nahi samjhonge! Dimpled Darling scores a big one. Andheri Fast makes history.Wish I was n Mumbai nt Hanoi "
"Great reviews for "My name is Khan".Good answer to My Name is Violence"
"Irony.To watch 'Avatar' viewers needed 3-D eyewear.To watch MNIK,we require full combat gear,bullet proof vests.Cultural terrorism.Fight back "
Who is the "Real you ?"

I full concur with your thoughts shobha. It appears Stage actors and State Actors are taking people for a solid ride. Contirbuting to it are the frenzy news channels who use public opionion for such non sensical issues? Was mnik a subject of national imporatance to appear on the headlines/front page? News channels need to do lot of introspection. There are lot of other things which affect common man. Of course these might not be 'entertaining and selling'. SRK - well done. Someday you'll be a guest lecture at the Harvards' & Cambridges' of the world on the topic 'Marketing'.

I enjoyed blackening of muthalik. He is the worst possible creature roaming Karnataka. Send him more pink cheddies along with black paint. Why dont Rahul and congress give same security for Valentine celebrations?

Oh come on, get a life. You very well know this Sena-giri going on for months now. And it was high time someone stands up to it....it is just not about film. With KJ-SRK-Kajol Film it is always going to get big opening. I as a normal public don't want some fucking politician to tell me when i can watch a movie and where. If you have so much problem with the over hype, switch off your TV. It is about aam aadmi rights.

im also sick of MNIk.. with all the newfound love and respect for SRk for taking a stand... but sachhhi de, we are taking it too far.

this only reaffirms the fact that we are a very cinema crazy nation.

SRK created more ripples than even a gandhi heir. (not that teh latter is a saint.... belong to teh same genus... though diff species)

my khopdi is doing ulti-palti with Bal T and UT... raa raa raa...

it is shameless on the part of karyakartas ... of whichever party to show their khunnas on the poor screen of g7 multiplex...

but nevertheless, though shameless and impotent an act... it was creative... guess, they themselves must be bored of the usual face blackening, glass breaking antics.

the issue here, is more than just the film... its about the fatichar tactic employed by these inland terrorist...

i i knew the T's id tell them...
dude, innovate. use some other bait... SRK is like too obvious. and pehle a promise of no Gondhal and then throwing of dhagad... shows how untrustworthy the heads are...

*******************************

Toh Baat Pakki... mmm nice... but you know.. im bored of sharmans stereotyping....

***********************************

TV18 show would have been real fun.. its always fun when you share the frame with tigers...

just when it is a smart sherni like you... who knows that the tiger is clawless and clueless.

im shath pratishat sure... our mumbaikars now dare to watch MNIK and seena thoaak ke say...

Watching news has actually become a time pass for those who don't have any work to do. It is new ear of reality entertainment that they seem to provide. More masala and gossip than even the saas bahu soaps can ever imagine!
They should write a caution note under every news channel :
"watching this channel can be injurious to your psyche. Please watch with our brains kept aside, safe."
(Same caution can go with an SRK movie too actually. Who needs a brain to watch his movie?!)

I think you have read the whole news. there are only few theatres showing the movie and even 50% of theatres are empty and then it is a sad day and despite govt assurances and security it has happened.whatever it has been brave of sharukh to hold on til now and hope fully he manages not to bow down. even if he does i am still proud of this khan as we have also not done anything proud by not seeing a movie out of fear

Hey Shobha...i heard somewhere that when you took the interview of SRK after 26/11, he was trying to talk soft on Pakistani guys and then you screwed him..Is it correct?? SRK is a big shame for india. Not that i support Shivsena and have been always a critic of it. However, i take up issues and support every party cause every party in this country is wrong many times. Also, some say that what wrong if SRK said it and freedom of speech...but at a time when priety, shilpa were aggressive and bold and said they dont care what people think, SRK did this. Also, SRK being a public figure bares a responsibility to speak his ideas in public. It is the same way he cant smoke in public. It affects many crazy fans of his. Think about the family who lost their relatives...do we all have any feelings for them. Those who think about making friendship with pakistanis should think about what sohail tanvir said on tv. I am really disappointed.

What a fall of an Empire. It is not the beginning of the end but end of the end for Shiv Sena. First the breaking away of his nephew, who is certainly more charismatic than his own son (though as communal and venomous as Balasaheb himself), next a tight slap in the form of Rahul Gandhi's train ride during his recent Mumbai visit and today a strong jolt by cine goers who came out in hoards to watch the movie that he is opposing.

Last time he called Pawar for moral support after Rahul's visit. He will certainly try to find another common enemy for clinging to while drowning. Let us see who will cosie up to him next. (Oh no not Mr. Bachchan, i am sure). Who will walk upto Mathoshree to provide "doobtey ko tinkey ka sahara"

I am proud that many stood against the goondagiri including elites like you.

You talk about democractic principles and praise blacking the face of Muthalik. Even though he is goon, people shouldn't resort to taking law into their hands. Because the promotion of such incidents will create Mobocracy and not democracy.

I feel sorry for journos like yours behaving hypocritically. If you stand for democracy stand firmly. Otherwise you will soon fall into category of pseudo-democratic people.

Currently SRK without controversy having the starpower to sell box-office tickets?

The list yet to watch:
Dulha Mil Gaya
Billu
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Bhoothnath
Swades
Paheli
Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam
Kaal
Asoka
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani
And many more...

Currently SRK without YRF/DP having the starpower to sell box-office tickets?
I doubt.

Well, the only flaw in the logic that the whole thing was staged is that this thing is being branded as ultimate defeat for Shiv Sena and Mr. Thackeray himself. Well, I dont think that Balasaheb will sell his dignity out for anything. Its like killing the golden goose. I too was very skeptical but maybe this is genuine. Ofcourse nothing can be ruled out, but probably this is no fake. This may prove to be the last nail in Sena's coffin.

Its surprising to see such cynicism from you. The 'spirit of Mumbai' is always applauded, mostly exaggerated though, but this is one time I feel the city should be hailed for standing up to a bully. Also, don't forget that SRK had the easy option of kneeling before shiv sena, but he didn't.

Why cant Karan show a normal muslim to showcase MNIK instead of a retard? There are thousands of normal Indian and American muslims who dont support terrorism. And why always show a hindu girl being besotted and support a muslim boy? Cant a muslim girl do the same with more conviction? Or a christian or a jewish girl? Does Karan wants to dilute terrorism impact and seeks to stop security checks at the airports? And the so called critic Rajeev Masand Goes gaga over this melodrama? SRK himself never stood openly for fellow muslims whether it is during Gujarat riots or Emraan Hashmi's travails. He started bothering only about his film and when Pakistani players were supposedly humiliated. And he talks of having good ties with Thackerays. All this shows, he does not care for Indian muslims. Yet these gullible muslims support this selfish man no end. Bravery, ha.

For the first time in UAE, especially in Dubai's English daily Gulf News, there was a full page advertisement for a movie release( MINK).Any Guess why?

Shobhaa, I am amazed at your double standards. You came across confused on NDTV last night. You say Bollywood has laryngitis. But that is what you have had so many years yourself. You have no qualms in taking potshots at "dimpled darling" and "italian mummy" but when it comes to the "tiger" you have been running scared yourself. You need to live in Mumbai too !! So when a bold journo like you uses and hides behind words like " a tiger cannot change its stripes" what can mortal men do ? This is essentially the difference between dimpled darling's party and tiger's party. You can attack one and walk peacefully in Mumbai but with the other you cannot. Do write a blog explaining your stand on this.

agree with goodluck, mnik is got nothing to do with muslims or anything, its a commercial venture, and for people to watch this movie based on sentiments is not at all meritorious. I believe one should watch the movie only if it is good, just like any other movie.

Hello guys...There are two living species referred to as "mink": the American Mink and the European Mink. The extinct Sea Mink is related to the American Mink, but was much larger. All three species are dark-colored, semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammals of the family Mustelidae, which also includes the weasels and the otters. The American Mink is larger, and more adaptable than the European Mink. It is sometimes possible to distinguish between the European and American mink; a European Mink always has a large white patch on its upper lip, while the American species sometimes does not. Thus, any mink without such a patch can be identified with certainty as an American Mink, but an individual with a patch cannot be certainly identified without looking at the skeleton. Taxonomically, both American and European Minks used to be placed in the same genus Mustela ("Weasels"), but most recently the American Mink has been re-classified as belonging to its own genus Neovison.Y can see this site different sex positions .... thank you very much
