Spare a thought for Sridevi....

And this 'modest' palace on the edge of the lovely bay with clear, emerald green , unpolluted waters is where the much adored Sultan of Oman lives. Locals refer to it as the Buckingham Palace of the Middle East.I'm being naughty. He's single. That makes him the Queen ?????

Spare a thought for Sridevi…..

I didn’t know Mona Kapoor. Even though, as a young girl, she lived in the same South Mumbai complex as I do,and in which her mother, the formidable Sattee Shourie owned a flat. I was away in Muscat when Mona died, and got to hear of it through mutual friends who had attended her funeral. Later, I scanned media coverage of the multiple functions that followed Mona’s passing away, and found one person missing from the images. Sridevi. The other mourners in impeccable designer whites may or may not have been Mona’s close friends. Nearly every celeb covered by the media was present for someone else, not for Mona. They were there as acquaintances of the Kapoor clan. Some were Anil Kapoor’s old associates, others , part of Boney’s ( Mona’s husband) or Sanjay’s circle. Then there was the younger lot, cousins and buddies of Mona and Boney’s two children. There were no pictures of Jahnavi and Khushi, Sridevi and Boney’s daughters. And my heart went out to Sridevi. What a position to be in, after spending so many years of her life living with Boney ( since June ’96), and giving birth to two daughters.Yet, when tragedy struck, there was no place or position for ‘the other woman’ in that very public space in which Boney was featured as a grieving widower.
Clearly, Mona was a much adored and popular person, judging from the outpouring of love for her even from virtual friends who knew her from just from her Twitter handle and frequent tweets, including the rather grim final one in which she bravely confronted her condition and imminent death. Mona must have been an extraordinarily courageous, dignified and strong woman. May her soul find peace. In terms of timing, it’s sad that she didn’t live to see her son’s movie debut. And that his first media exposure happened under tragic circumstances at his beloved mother’s funeral. What now? Sridevi will be seen in her major comeback film fairly soon, an ambitious and risky project that her countless devoted fans are looking forward to. Boney has also landed himself a cushy job with Sahara. And yet,Bollywood watchers are still in a bit of a quandary wondering how to respond to Sridevi once the rituals and mourning period for Mona are over. Should they offer condolences? Make no reference to the unfortunate death in the family? Pretend nothing has happened?
What will Boney do? Make it legal and officially marry Sridevi, the lady he has shared his life with for 16 years?? Will Sridev’s long cherished dream of being recognized by all, family included, as “Mrs. Boney Kapoor” , finally come true? Sure, it’s complicated. But these are just a few realities of modern life, not restricted to Bollywood. There are several similar situations in urban society. It is just that for Boney and Sridevi, being Bollywood personalities, the spotlight and speculation are hard to avoid. There are no road maps in delicate scenarios like this one. What should Sri have done? Stayed away or turned up? What was going through her mind and heart as she and her young daughters followed the coverage ( assuming they watched it?). How will she deal with the public scrutiny and intrusive questions when she does step out with Boney next? Tough. Mona has left for a better place. But Sridevi is very much around. A little sensitivity directed her way, wouldn’t hurt.

Hey Shobhaa,

I thought Boney Kapoor married Sridevi after he divorced Mona. There are pictures on the web that suggest that hey had a South Indian style wedding. In any case, Sridevi's decision to stay away might have been a simple one to make; motivated by the desire to provide some space to Boney, and Mona's kids. Her situation is pretty well defined, I think, as Boney's second wife, and not as nebulous as you make it out to be.

Surely you jest! What is delicate situation about it?

Sridevi and Boney are a public established couple, whose images are in every tabloid. No idea if they are married or not, but frankly no one really cares.

For a woman who spent the last 16 years avoiding the first wife when she was alive, it makes no sense for Sridevi to want to be around her in death. Her "Trohy wifelet" relationship with Boney is based on seperateness from his first wife, so I dont think she is looking for condolences either.

Sadly, this was an expected passing away, so I would hardly imagine anyone was making decisions based on grief stricken reactions or on the spur of the moment. Usually there is a game plan in place already. Obviously Sridevi had read Camilla Parker Bowles handbook quite thoroughly! She did the right thing staying away from the funeral.

I cannot understand what young, succesful actresses see in married men past their prime.

I dont think Sridevi is desperate to be called Mrs Boney Kapoor. Deep down she knows that Boney kapoor seduced her during "roop ki rani" project and when Sridevi's father passed away he probably knew how to get her love since she was vulnerable at that time - its basically old man wooing young woman during emotional distress -otherwise Sridevi would have never married a man who is his Tau's age. And as someone rightly said - your timing of raising this issue sucks....Period.

I think, They were married! I seriously think, as a human being and a wife its tough for Sridevi. No blamegames should be played at this point of time, how and why it all happened.

Everyone knows that Boney and Sridevi are married, if its legal or not , who is interested in knowing that?
Boney and Mona lived together for many years , they have two kids, they ought to have feelings for each other, he was mournful or not is difficult to predict or calculate.
As for Sridevi is concerned, why would we expect her to come there. Lets respect their spaces and not poke in their private life.

I cant believe theres support for a woman whos stolen another womans husband and a man whos gotten another woman pregant while he was already married. its none of our business? yes. But whats happened to Mona isnt justified. And the act of Boney Kapoor which caused his children and his 10 year younger wife so much pain is shameful. What a selfish man. May Mona rest in peace. Who cares if Boney n Sridevi are married.

We are born indians, its not good to give pain to an indian women (mona kapoor) who is not brought up to face another woman in life. Boney lived ahead of his times. Not apropriate , not the right time for kids to understand the complicacies......why Amitabh Bachan never did such a thing (Learn) Rekha n Parveen Babi were far more tempting than Sreidevi..............

I honestly cracked up after reading this . Please refer to Mona Kapoor's interview on Pinkvilla .. sri stealing away a 13 year old marriage and sympathy calls? really ? And i am sure shes missing from the scene because she wasnt accepted by the kapoor roots itself , if at all my boney . A display is a display . not home furniture . tough but true.

I agree that S has contributed big time for Indian Cinema - she also earned equally well.Beaufiful - though the face you see now is not the one she was born with. S did not think with her head and heart , while spoiling another ladies home. She deserves , what she is hearing now. How much pain Mona had to go through ... ! Sad. But glad that she grew above her adversaries and emergered as a true heroine of life !
