Vijender ki Jai ho!

The latest cutie\hottie on the block is India's boxer Vijender Kumar. Now that's a real success story. The guy is the son of a humble bus conductor who comes froma village of boxers in Haryana. The dapper six footer , as media reports describe him, is pure star material - from attitude (sticking his tongue out at lensmen), to focus and determination, this 22- year -old has it made. From modelling to movies won't be that hard a leap, and I'm pretty certain there will be dozens of talent touts\scouts chasing the winner now. If anyone can challenge Dhoni's supremacy in the endorsement stakes, it's this guy.
Meanwhile, my main concern is reserved for Kiara, my spirited Irish Setter , whose second home has become the vet's clinic. She has contracted tick fever, her spleen is enlarged and she is uncharacteristically droopy. But such is her temperament, she refuses to fuss or resist... that's the stuff a true champion (a perfect lady!) is made of. I am so proud of her.
As I am of Marathi Mulgi Madhu Sapre who is in town with her Italian husband to expand their gelato business. She came over last evening and we bonded over weak tea and Kolkata sandesh (God bless Amishi!). Madhu was looking like a bronzed sea goddess, tanned and fit. She is ready to catwalk at the forthcoming Couture week. I can tell you, she can outclass the current crop of trashy\tacky models with absolute ease. Now wouldn't it be terrific to see someone like Madhu in that Bigg Boss house? She is such a natural and her marathi\italian accent while speaking english would be a treat to hear.
Well.... off I go to chew on a bajra roti (with a generous dollop of ghee and a limp of jaggery - yummmmm).I am missing my daughters Avantikka (London) and Arubdhati (Dubai). All I want from them is a big hug, the dvd of Woody Allen's latest film 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' and Pond's Cold Cream. Yup. The search continues...

De, Im feeling so bad for kiara. people say its difficult to see if the pet is unwell, but the fact is that it is so easy to detect. Kiara has erlichiosis, or tick fever, please give her a bath with one dakkan full of eucalyptus oil in one bucket of lukewarm water. Eucalyptus is a tick repellent. Play some soft music for her. It will sooth her mood. And speak to her. She will feel reassured. Let her not lose hope or feel that she is sick.

Madhu Sapre, yes, where others saw language and their vernacularity as a handicap, Rakhi Sawant and Madhu Sapre took pride in what they are. I remember people immitating Madhu Sapre's speech at the miss universe paegent "I will build a big stadium for india". She spoke her mind, didnt speak about motehr teresa and read out their version of the school text book ka pledge. I respect her for that. (As much as I adore her, I hate her for being game for animal abuse during the tuff ad.)

Vijendra kumar. Ohh. Hottie he is. a real hottie. IF dhoni does "Zidd Karo, Dunia Badlo"... he could do... some body dikhaooo ads.. like some cheddi ads or so. I dont feel he will give dhoni a run for his money. Zulfi Sayyed yes, he has a reason to be scared of this new hunk.

Food, Ghee... finally your blogpost is complete.

ponds cold cream, yes, im also looking around. Ab tak no success.

HUL waalon ne bhi reply nahi bheja. I resent them the main twice.

uffff... these corporates.

I love me some Madhu Sapre too. Heck, I love me some Rakhi Sawant and some Tanuja and some Madhuri Dixit too. Women with spunk and ambition and purpose in life... all this in a very innate and natural way. As a Marathi Mulgi myself, it makes me proud to note that for the most part Maharashtrian culture has promoted womens empancipation and we quite naturally expect women to be complete, confident people in thier own right. I see this in my family from my own great grandmother down. Thier nauwari saris and meddling mothersinlaws never allowed for them to be cowed down in the most fundamental ways. I see this strenght of purpose in the armies of women alighting from local trains at Churchgate. Marathi women in polyester nivvi saris with thier hair rubber banded into pony tails. They carry bags of green beans to be readied for the evening meal, and files in thier sensible bags. If they are lucky enough to get a seat in the train, they correct thier childrens homework and read office reports alike. Yes they do carry the double burden of being homemakers and providers, but finally they were and are real people and not mere appendages of the decision makers in thier families. I am so glad it so much more cultural than just nessecity. So there you have it... Jai Shivaji!

Madhu Sapre in a reality show would be a treat to watch! But Gelato in India? Really? That would be cool. Good Gelato? I cant figure out why Gelato eaten anywhere outside Italy dosent taste as wonderful as when it is eaten in Italy itself. I have eaten faux Gelato made on machines imported from Italy in many countries, but they dont have the same flavor and mouth feel. No, not even in New York where you can pretty much get anything. Maybe some food scientist reader will be able to explain this to me.

About the boxer, most awsome! Congratulations. Yeah, I agree a man like that can rake in the endorsements. So kudos to him! Was his match televised in India?

Vijender has endorsement potential I agree. But someone who is even hotter is Sushil Kumar. He's got the body!

And I must say, for the first time in my life, I was actually proud of the stuff that I was seeing on television - Indian athletes competing head on with international competition in non-team sports!

WoW!
