Morimoto letdown.

Very quickly. Taada taadi, as the Bongs would say, the dinner last night was a bit of a disaster ... Though Chef Morimoto is a photegenic hottie, with a hot temper to match those amazing looks. He is not averse to adding garam masala to Japenese dishes, he said, since he does not believe in following 'rules'. Always a great sign. Inspired chefs are inventive, innovative and create asthey go along. Alas, his Omakase menu at 6000 bucks per head (minus taxes), was not inspired enough. Or I was in a bad mood ( but if two glasses of vintage Dom can't do the trick...?).Eight tiny portions were sampled... and I barely liked two. I am not a big fan of anything TARTARE ( raw meats), so perhaps i shouldn't be commenting. But even the Wagyu disappointed. BADE MIYAN'S KEBABS ARE TASTIER. Enough said.
I must run. Rituparno awaits me in Kolkata. I love his films. And am looking forward to being on his show. It's a Dusshera Special. He is one director to have extracted the best performances from our ice maiden Aishwarya Rai. Even in a mediocre film like Raincoat, with that overrated and most unattractive actor, Ajay Devgan.

6000 ohhh my god. id rather take a flight to bombay eat swadisht khaana in a sasta tikao restaurant and fly back.

hehehheh! dont say like this about ajay devgun De. Unattractive is not the word. UGLY! is the word. How can you be so kind to the obvious. But (At Times)I like his acting But yes, he is overrated.

Aishwarya... ohhh... ice MAIDEN? no no... she is khula MAIDAAN where matches of the Khans and bachchaans and ObeyRai 's are played

jeez, that was bitchy! Why .. pray why would you just label someone ugh-ly or unattractive? Personal grouse happening? Methinx Devgan's an OK actor (think Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam n Zakhm .. even Raincoat actually!)... some women (with bad taste, perhaps) do find him HOT in a dark horse kinda way... personally, I think he has a decent screen presence. Manly shanly atleast! LOL ...AND he has an adorable Kajol for wifey, so there's gotta be somethin he's doing right!

Speakin of Bade Miya's, there's one thing I'd like to add. if you end up partying till 2 and land up there n find it closed, PLS DO NOT settle for the Chicken/Paneer Rolls that the local taxiwallas stock up for ye late lateefs ... they're PARTICULARLY awful. All chewy, dry tasteless. The perfect way to ruin a perfectly delightful walk down the Gateway road... Hmmmph!

Raincoat, I thought was much more than a mediocre film.
Ajay Devgun might not be an attractive guy but dont think he's an overrated actor.
He was quite good, particularly in Zakhm, Company, Gangaajal, Apaharan & Omkara.

Holy Jesus... 6000 bucks per head??? With that price, I can spend a day shopping for Titan Fastrack watch, a pair of supercool sunglasses, spend an evening with a beautiful girl at Bandstand Coffee Day, check into a pub for a couple of chilled beers with spicy tandoori chicken along with friends, dinner at a roadside dhaba, and retire to bed with the balance amount put into my savings account !! :-D I hate Morimoto... he he he...

I feel Ajay Devgan is a very good actor!! He was brilliant in Company and Omkara! Looks wise, I feel he is average.

i second Praveigne for all but Ajay devgan..you are right he sucks big time.He should turn to direction i think...that way we don't have to see him on screen..what a relief that would be.

u r not being fair to Ajay devgan.he is much better than abhisheks, johns, suniel shetty and all those. He is an actor, he was impressive in HDDCS, gangajal, apharan, jameen. Its being racial,if u degrade his looks, we are indian and he has got an Indian complexion, what is wrong with that?
Ashwarya-I cant understand how she gets so much of money and opublicity and all, she is good for nothing.and Raincoat was a bad movie.

HA! Renu - Your's is the most ridiculous comment I have read in recent times. You said "...Its being racial,if u degrade his looks, we are indian and he has got an Indian complexion, what is wrong with that?"

God! Where did that come from? HA!
De just said Ajay Devgan is "unattractive".

You are the one to jump to self-concocted definition of "unattractive" = Indian complexion.

Grow up! First of all, even your so called romantic image of "Indian" complexion has a palette of shades. Second of all, to call someone "unattractive" is certainly not racial. And finally, you need to rethink your definition of attractiveness which by no worldly standards is only based on skin color.

Even I don't think Ajay Devgan is "attractive". But I loved his performance in the film Yuva. He was brilliant.

Hi There !
I finally find the blog of the famous Shobhaa De.. Yippee..
One of the few woman in this world who inspired me to write what I trully feel and be honest to myself and my readers..

I guess Im gonna be starred at for saying but I Have agree with you that Raincoat was one of the VERY few movies that Aishwarya Rai's performance was actually kinda tolerable..

6000 bucks to eat raw meat? (*wow* I hope I'm that rich someday, momma). And yes, nothing comes close to Bade Miyan, well, except Khan Chacha in Delhi, perhaps...

De, can I get a taster's job somewhere? That way I could fight off hunger! ;)

And Ajay is good looking!

Hey.... Mam.... I am a big Fan of urs..... I like all those words you put in to make your your write up better than others.. they are quite enjoyable and ... quite young as your sprits....

"...nothing comes close to Bade Miyan, well, except Khan Chacha in Delhi, perhaps..."- bang on target Mister Crowley.

And De- No! Ajay Devgan is in fact one of the most underrated actors of the Indian film fraternity. Although he is definitely not attractive enough (with those jet-black lips because of excessive smoking and yellow teeth, he does look so very "uncool"), but I must say that as an "Actor" he is quite amazing!
Prime examples- Prakash Jha's 'Gangajal' and Rajkumar Santoshi's 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh'.
What an actor man!

And further- I can't believe that you shelled 6000 bucks for a sushi. That's ridiculous...!
Well as I say- "Bade log, badi badi baatein..." lol

Takecare De.
Love and respect you know are as always there for you-

guys.... Ajay seems to attract a lot of die hard loyalists! Lucky Ajay! I have regard for him as an actor who delivers ONlY when cast in a certain kind of role. Like Freeman. These are dependable character actors one watches for performance alone. But to make it as a star, requires some other attributes. Good looks help!!

rainboy said...

i agree mam...100%.

nice to see that u read comments too.

cheers

Harish said...

De, I agree with you In Toto.

Double Seven said...

Yeah possibly true.
Freeman should work with Devgan to remake the 'The Shawshank Redemption' masterpiece.
Right on!... Devgan would replace Tim Robbins as the lead actor of our very own desi version- maybe the names should be 'The Tihar Redemption' or 'Thane Se Mukti', something of that sort...
LOL
