Just finished a terrific lunch at the brand new Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Vizag. The chef was kind enough to make some fiery rassam which I combined with soothing curd rice. But the delicacy I enjoyed was tendli ( not the cricket legend), Telegu-style. My local host, Soumya ( actress Gautami's niece) googled the word 'tendli' and came up with the english equivalent, which is 'Gentlemen's Toes.' Earlier, we'd sampled Ladies' Fingers ( bhindi ).... and now it was time to share a laugh over our menu. It must be the heat here - over 33 degrees. But I am equally sure it's the madness of the royal wedding that we are all o.d.ing on. I loved being on the Headlines Today show in Delhi yesterday, and even those long hours at the studio ( from 2 p.m. to 10 30pm), flew by because all of us were having so much fun! The international votes are divided over Kate's gown - I liked half of it - the top half. The rest looked far too clunky and heavy... like it belonged to a dowager queen, not a freshly minted Duchess. William looked like his late mother, Princess Diana in military gear ( Michael Jackson would have loved his uniform). It was really Harry the Hottie who stole the show, with his naughty expression, all those gold braids and that bed hair. As for Kate's sister Pippa in that super sexy Baywatch dress - what was she thinking? Sure she has a great butt, and she probably figured it would get maximum footage as she held Kate's train down the aisle. But hello! wasn't her look a bit too tarty for such a regal occasion? As for Princess Anne and her daughters, their ghastly clothes looked like the ladies had ripped up their old sofas in a rage, and hastily created those ugly, flower print outfits. Victoria Beckham resembled a witch - Cruella De Ville herself - such harsh make-up for a day event! This faux pas is enough for her to lose her place as a fashion icon. The Queen looked like a dotty daffodil. And Camilla, like a rottweiler on an outing.
This memorable day belonged to the radiant bride. From Plain Kate to Catherine the Great - what a fantastic ending to a decade long prem kahani. I think this shaadi will last - both of them looked genuinely in love, and the double whammy provided by the bonus chumma, only added to the magic.
I get back to Mumbai tomorrow. But only after watching a performance of 'Waiting for Godot' staged by 'Applause' in Vizag. No, it's not a Telegu version, one of the 'tramps' played by Surya, tells me seriously. Pity!
Victoria Beckam looked like a harsh witch. And all those super sized funny hats. Prince Williams, oops Duke of Oxford, looked sweet like his mother. Harry was enjoying himself. Kate looked beautiful like an Indian or Arabian princess. Most people must be thinking about the late princess Diana. With Pippa and Harry, it looked like HAHK.
Duke of Cambridge...Good Luck and not Duke of Oxford!
From giving interview for Prince's wedding to nibbling gentlemens toes... what a change my countrywoman :)
M'am, A couple a days ago you wrote about our weddings! What about this one? It took the cake I suppose? You looked really nice in your British Red sari! I am sure if you had gone you would have made heads turn!
We all missed lady Diana! But poor Kate, imagine being in comparision with the ghost of a mother in law, as well as pleasing a grand mother in law, still alive, and a mother in law no2 who everyone thinks is a witch!!! Help!
But like they say 'the king is dead! long live the king!' I say 'The princess is dead long live the princess!'
As for Victoria, I think she didnt want to change again for the dinner at night!
Thanks for the correction, pickle. Oxford or Cambridge? I am always confused though they are as dstinct from each other like mango pickle from lemon. No offence.
Is it only me or Dont you people think that out of them all i liked "JAGUAR" the most, the one in which princess mother came.
Here in America, the media force- fed us coverage of the British royal wedding every day. It was horrible.
Kate looked perfectly lovely...her train was just the right length, and the lace added to the elegance and grace of the outfit, besides being 'in'.
The Duke and Duchess look wonderfully happy together, and here's wishing them a joyous and fulfilling life together !
OMG! Royal wedding on every single channel yesterday, and showing the same footage all day long. Oh gosh I was getting so tired with it. Specially with all these host going crazy with their own weird hats, pagal kahi kha....hahahha. The bride & her mini bro in law prince harry sure was the cherry on cake. She is simply looking so happy & comfortable. Poor mother in law looks so dry & dusty in front of her (kate's) presence. Of all the royals from the world, the one who looted the world most, now has the largest fans across the world. hahaha God bless Kate & William<3
One more thing! About kate's sister, I think her parent's must had advice her to keep it low since they honor their simple background. I guess the Middletons must be think'n to hell with outer look when inside they are v.v.very happy about this big day. Seriously rather be happy & stick with own way then trying so hard to compete with those lady with crazy hats. Ting! hahaha
It is not TELEGU.. TELUGU.
Thanx for Gracing us with your presence....
Cannot understand the big hue and cry about the Royals and even Liz and Shane kissing in public.
Why do we get tickled with this normal act of love...
During our time, even a husband and wife just holding hands on the road, while going out for a walk, would bring sneers and stares as if one has come from Mars.
Thank God for the change. Today one finds couples in every nook and corner the poor souls get a chance to be together, forget the mooching around in taxis and auto ricks.
Guess some will say that there is a time and place for showing their love. However not everyone is lucky enough to have such privacy.
It is better making love than...
Come to think of it. How would the population grow? if not...
Wondering what it'd take to shed that overzealous fascination for all things British or western.
While this one was billed to be a Royal wedding conducted in austere times, there's nothing to deter the British royalty to splurge, and qualify as the most pampered monarchy on the globe, a shrunken invitee list notwithstanding.
Might sound as a spoiler after all that merriment, but as responsible emerging economies, our Govts could've perhaps sounded to our past colonial masters to apply a more frugal approach to their lifestyle, their monarchy included, especially in our very interconnected, and interwoven economies. "Mind your own business" is a reply that could be well anticipated in keeping with their hardened snobbery, but if emerging economies could be instructed to cut down on emissions and slow down on consumption, it's only fair to apply a reciprocal logic here.
Point is, while candy coated sweet-talk by heads of state from western countries is consumed with a fair degree of seriousness, it's time the emerging powers in the current world order give a piece of their mind, solicited or otherwise.
tendli is 'Ivy gourd' in English. If you have a cook who knows to make kannada dishes, ask her to make a dish with 'thondakkaya & coconut'. If she does it right, ungli chat'the reh jaoge.
Your post is very useful and interesting. I liked it very much and felt beneficial for all, if they have any doubt about the above mentioned topic. We can learn some valuable tips from this blog.
