Why cabbies are my best friends....

The limo chauffeur taking us to the Suvarnabhumi International airport ( Bangkok's pride and joy ) was a jovial, chatty, well-informed chap. But first a word about the naming of this spectacular airport ( ranked 10th best in the world) - it translates to 'Land of Gold'. Hello! It hasn't been named after an individual. Even though Thailand's beloved king remains hugely popular and is worshipped like a God by his people, he does not name every public building, road, sea link, railway station, chowk and museum after himself, or members of his family. In India, nearly every public building is named after the Nehru-Gandhi family. And in Mumbai, one cannot get beyond Chhatrapati Shivaji. Back to the driver. His eyes were twinkling mischievously when he commented, "I saw something on television today. Is it true that a single family in Mumbai has built one gigantic tower just for itself in the heart of the city? Wow!!! I hear it is the most expensive private residence in the world. Double wow!!" So, my dears, you see....'Antilia' is in the news, no matter which city of the duniya you are in! Tell me NOW if you want more khabar from Bangkok.... there is lots to share. But , if you'd prefer Mumbai samachar, give me a day or two to catch up on all that I missed. Though, I'm told, it wasn't much.

My memories about Bangkok r quite fresh as I visited that place recently in Nov-2010.
I also liked d name Suvarnabhumi International report as it resembles our Sanskrit language. There seems to be analogy betn.Indian and south east asian culture from ancient times. The people of Assam originally hails from Bangkok,There is a 800 year old shiva temple on the border of Thailand & Cambodia.
In Thailand; 80% of their national income comes from tourism so that place resembles international gathering at every spot. At street corners v could see fish, meat & Octopus being fried & served. Of course; we were lucky to eat continental breakfast at Hotel IBIS in Pattaya & great Indian tadka at Mumbai magic.
And of course; shopping at Platinum Mall in desi company of gujjus (bet ane bol),kannadigas from Banglur was exhilarating experience.T-shirts,three forths,3D pictures and last but not d least a gown was on our shopping radar.
