Ledger keeping

Heath. Heath. Heath. Heath. Heath. Heath... I am breathless!! What a performance! What a movie! Batman didn't stand a chance against the Joker. The Dark Knight is one of the most thought provoking movies I have ever seen - a cinematic poem on morals, ethics, violence, greed, compromise. And Heath's Joker is perhaps as iconic a movie character as Brando's Godfather. Years and years down the line, there will be others striving hard to match up to the intelligence and timing of the late actor, who brought a rare black humour to his interpretation of the role that was synonymous with Jack Nicholson all this while. While Jack played it broadly with an evil glint in his eyes, he still remained quintessentially Jack. Ledger's Joker is far edgier, more manic and epitomises the evil lurking within all of us.
I came home shaken and stirred. Since sleep was not an option, I decided to write (the world's best therapy!). I was on my laptop when the mild earthquake (4.5 on the Richter scale) that had its epicentre in Koyna made my chair wobble. I thought I could sense the Joker's presence at my elbow.... and shuddered. The large Art Deco lamp above my head started to sway. I got spooked but carried on writing, challenging the imaginary Joker to scare\threaten me further. It was well past 2 a.m. when I finally retired. The Joker was licking his lips and laughing. At me. At all of us. He was not in Gotham. The Joker was in fact, in Surat. And heading Mumbai -wards. We have been warned. Are we ready for him??

Once a harmless prankster, now a sadistic criminal. It's the demand of the changin' times that gives Joker a different meaning I believe. Nice that you linked to Surat, it makes sense.

yes De, I agree with you writing is the worlds best therapy.

There is one joker in your elbow, another in the sky (or earth or water or everywhere) Which tree, which bicycle, which train, which dabba will have a bomb.. no one knows.

Though we wish that both jokers fizzle off soon.

Dark Knight. Mereko bhi dekhna hai... let me peep into the newspaper and see where its running.

smiles :-)

I must confess that I failed to pick up the Nicholson connection. My opinion which is biased at best, says that the rest of the movie didn't live up to the 'Joker' who by himself pulled th movie out to make it into the high 90s in RT.com.

For those who haven't watched it, I'm sorry but you guys are somewhat, umm..., slack!

hi there,

yes, I think Darnk Knight will break Titanic`s record. Any guess who the Dark knight was... batman or joker?

Needless to say, the Joker was the star of the show! one sad realization that i left the theater. Heath Ledger, the actor portraying the frighteningly chilling villain, Joker, has passed away and will be unable to receive his Oscar, which I have little to no doubt he will win.

agreed

1.jack loses hands down to heath.

2.that joker is getting hi-tech(micro-chips in bombs) now in surat.

Okay so I am not going to write about Batman, because I havent seen it yet. Instead I will comment on your last (not latest) post.

I was tickled to read your review of the new Olive. Such snide deliciousness. Hehehehe.

You are a class act! Your writings about the contemporary city bring back to me the seductive and addictive energy of the bipolar mess that is Mumbai. Alas, I left it all behind when I ran away to find my fortune so long ago. I can visit but cannot go home again!

Another Kiran in NYC

the production definitely realizes the duality of the main protagonist of the movie...hence the name dark knight instead of batman xyz ..which though symbolizes batman literally but metaphorically, definitely jokers mind......an awesome potrail truly....kudos on a masterpiece.

my apologies if too many questions, but i'm like that only :)

chanced upon ur blog from engayging life. i m happy that the media guys have not picked up ur blog....yet. it takes the fun out of it when a person has about 248 comments on his posts. I won't want to reply if this was the case on *my* blog....tht's the reason i deleted AB and KJo's blog from my blogroll.

Ps: btw, if u do read some of the blogs/find them interesting, how about blogrolling them :) they won't mind ur comments or the fact that "Shobha De reads my blog!"

do u like to be in touch with the 'common people' :D
what say u?

Yep, the movie wasn't all that fab. Heath walked away with the cake!

I'm glad he takes on such noble characters! First the Gay Cowboy, now a lethal clown.
